 Breaking Bad (TV Series 2008–2013) - IMDb

Breaking Bad being not only one of the most watch television shows, but one of the most entertaining shows of all time makes it my favorite shows to watch again and again.  Exploring the ideas of greed and being power hungry by following the short timeline of what is left of Walter White's life.  He is a high school chemistry teacher who, in the beginning of the show, is diagnosed with lung cancer even though he has never smoked a day in his life.  He feels this is unfair and that he needs to support his family for the future when he is gone.  Walt eventually begins a meth empire with his ex-student Jesse Pinkman, with Walt's expertise in chemistry and Jesse's experience in the drug trade they are able to grow their empire into one of the largest in the nation.  Walt begins to become money hungry causing distrust and distance with everyone in his life, he finally is able to make peace with everyone in his life in the final episode, by freeing Jesse from horrible people and finding a way to get the money he has made to his family without knowing it came from him.  To be able to see the way the money and greed change the man, how he begins with a simple plan to just help his family to wanting to hold all the power over all his business partners and family.  The show was such a massive success that it was able to create a spin-off show, Better Call Saul, and a film to conclude Jesse's story, El Camino, all of which are masterful.

              This film follows Jeff a man who has suffered an injury from his job as a traveling photographer, always trying to get the best shot possible.  Unfortunately, Jeff winds up being hit by a car and is wheelchair bound for a number of weeks.  Bored out of his mind he begins looking through his neighbors’ window, first of which is Miss Lonelyheart, a single woman who struggles with the men and is depressed.  Next a young song writer who hosts parties, is constantly practicing his piano, and at times wooing the ladies with it.  And Miss Torso, a dancer hosting parties and gentlemen over, a drink and be merry type of woman.  Finally, the Thorwalds, a married couple that seems unhappy.  We learn that Jeff' has a girlfriend, Lisa, a young and glamours woman who works in modeling, wants him to propose and marry her.  We see his reluctance when he is...

 The Male Gaze  The male ga ze is how women are viewed in film, it focuses on the sexual aspect of the female body.  By objectifying women and looking at them as only as a sexual objects and not much more.   The male perspective often dominates the narrative, shaping how female characters are portrayed and limiting their roles. Above is scene from The Wolf of Wall Street, a film where the main characters wife is depicted as this gorgeous and almost goddess like woman who is only seen in this specific view. She eventually is able to stick up for herself to break out of an abusive and drug abusing husband. To move off the male gaze needs to change, to continue to give women power that they have that is more than just their bodies. To be able to have strong and powerful female characters that have more substance is extremely important to give women of the world power and to be seen as equals.

The television show Suits, is a show based around a corporate law form and the relationships that are built in the office between the lawyers and other employees.  The main character, Mike Ross, is a fraudulent lawyer, a man who has a photographic memory which he uses to convince the law firm to hire him despite never going to law school or being in the bar.  His relationship with the one of the senior partners, Harvey Specter, is one that is thick as thieves, he is at first the only one who knows about Mike's secret and does everything in his power to keep it.  As the show goes on the relationships grow, everyone eventually finds out and even Mike is able to find love in the firm.  The show's main theme revolves around loyalty amongst friends and explores other topics such as black women in big business. The show has recently become one of my favorite to watch, sometimes I find myself bingeing for a couple hours because it is so interesting and moving.
